BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A former Vermont professor was sentenced on Tuesday for having child pornography.
Authorities say Coberlin Brownell, 54, of Burlington, pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of possessing child sex abuse material.
Vt. Superior Judge John Pacht sentenced Brownell to one-to-two years in prison, all suspended. He will serve two years of probation and will have to register as a sex offender. He will not serve any time in jail unless he violates his probation.
Brownell used to be an assistant professor of communications and creative media at Champlain College in Burlington, but the school tells us he has not been employed there since 2019.
