Defensive end Jereme Robinson has signed with the New England Patriots, the NFL team announced on Sunday.

Robinson is an alumnus of Carver High School in Montgomery.

Following five seasons at Kansas, Robinson joined the Chicago Bears after being passed over in the 2025 NFL Draft. But the Bears waived Robinson on July 22. Chicago waived Robinson when it signed defensive lineman Tanoh Kpassagnon, an eight-year NFL veteran.

In addition to his football play at Carver, Robinson helped the Wolverines win the AHSAA Class 6A boys’ basketball championship in 2018.

Another former Alabama high school standout went the opposite way from Robinson on Sunday in the NFL. The Arizona Cardinals released wide receiver Quez Watkins from their injured reserve with an injury settlement.

The Cardinals had placed the former Athens High School standout on injured reserve on Aug. 2 with an undisclosed ailment. By agreeing to an injury settlement, Watkins will be free to sign with another team once he returns to health.

Watkins signed with Arizona on Jan. 16 after spending the 2024 season on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad without getting into a game.

A sixth-round selection from Southern Miss in the 2020 NFL Draft, Watkins was the Philadelphia Eagles’ No. 2 wide receiver in 2021, when he had 43 receptions for 647 yards and one touchdown, and No. 3 in 2022, when he had 33 receptions for 354 yards and three touchdowns.

But in the 2023 season, Watkins missed eight games with a hamstring injury as his production dropped to 15 receptions for 142 yards and one touchdown.
