Sports Mole previews Saturday’s Major League Soccer clash between New England Revolution and Los Angeles FC, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Los Angeles FC visit Gillette Stadium for only the second time in their MLS history Saturday in the opening matchday of this upcoming weekend.

Last week, the Revs defeated DC United 2-0, while LA came back on two occasions to collect a 2-2 draw in the Windy City against the Chicago Fire.

Match preview

Finally, New England got back into the win column in their previous match, their first victory in this competition since late May (3-0 at CF Montreal).

While they ended a nine-game winless run, Caleb Porter’s team are still eight points below the playoff line in the Eastern Conference, with only 10 matches remaining.

A victory on Saturday might close the playoff gap a little, while it would equal their longest winning run at home in the 2025 regular season (two matches).

Only one of their seven domestic wins in 2025 have come against a side currently in a playoff position, blanking Charlotte FC 1-0 on the road in April.

Five of their last seven away matches played in this competition have ended in defeat for New England, two after they had drawn first blood.

The Revs are undefeated at home this season versus Western Conference opposition, earning a draw against the Colorado Rapids (3-3) and San Jose Earthquakes (0-0).

We witnessed another resilient performance for Los Angeles FC last week, moving them up to fifth in the Western Conference as a result of their late heroics.

That was the sixth time in the competition this year that they had come back to earn a result after conceding the opening goal, having now collected eight points in that position.

The Black and Gold have points in six successive league fixtures away from home but have only claimed victory in one of those instances (1-0 in July at Minnesota United).

Steve Cherundolo’s team have two or three games in hand on the four teams above them in the West, including two on the Seattle Sounders, who are four points ahead of them at the moment.

Their 30 goals conceded are the second fewest in the West, alongside Minnesota United, with the Vancouver Whitecaps and Austin FC the only sides that have been better (28 each).

LAFC have never lost an MLS affair against the Revolution, winning their previous two outings against them by a combined margin of 6-0, including a 2-0 win in their 2019 visit to Gillette Stadium.

Team News

Despite a minor quad strain, Ignatius Ganago returned to the Revs lineup last Saturday, replacing Luca Langoni in the second half of that contest.

Carles Gil surpassed Taylor Twellman for all-time regular-season goal contributions with the Revs, collecting a goal and assisting on Leonardo Campana’s opener, while Matt Turner, on loan from Lyon, made three stops for his first MLS clean sheet since 2022.

Leg injuries kept Aaron Long, Jeremy Ebobisse and Lorenzo Dellavalle out of the LAFC lineup against Chicago, Maxime Chanot sat out with a head injury and Son Heung-min made his first appearance since departing Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

Ryan Hollingshead and Denis Bouanga drew them level on two occasions last month, with the latter converting from the penalty spot, nine minutes before the 90.

New England Revolution possible starting lineup:

Turner; Feingold, Ceballos, Fofana, Miller; Polster, Yusuf; Urruti, Gil, Chancalay; Campana

Los Angeles FC possible starting lineup:

Lloris; Palencia, Tafari, Segura, Hollingshead; Amaya, Jesus, Delgado; Heung-min, Ordaz, Bouanga

We say: New England Revolution 0-1 Los Angeles FC

Turner looked more than comfortable in his first game back for New England, but the Black and Gold always seem to find an extra gear at this time of the year, and we expect their persistence will pay off once again.
