Throughout the first full week of July, the Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) 2025 marathon event raised over $2.4 million for Doctors Without Borders, which is a similar amount raised during January’s Awesome Games Done Quick event. The 2025 Summer Games Done Quick marathon was highlighted by speedruns of classic games like Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Super Metroid, along with modern titles like Deltarune.

Usually held in late June to early July, Summer Games Done Quick is one of two mainline events hosted annually for charity by GDQ. Its headline marathon, Awesome Games Done Quick, takes place in early January. Between the charity marathons, GDQ also holds smaller events like Flame Fatales and Black In A Flash to give various speedrunners a chance to hone their craft. Additionally, Games Done Quick has hosted impromptu events as a response to natural disasters, such as Hurricane Helene in 2024. Games Done Quick broadcasts its charity events live on Twitch, with YouTube highlights of full game runs uploaded shortly after.

Kick vs Twitch Q2 2025 viewership stats

Kick Reaches New Milestone Amid Twitch’s Ongoing Viewership Slump

Kick reaches a new milestone in its ascent, strengthening its position in the live-streaming space as Twitch faces a steady viewership decline.

Six months after Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 raised money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, its summer counterpart raised some remarkable donations of its own. From July 6 to 13, SGDQ 2025 raised over $2.4 million and counting for Doctors Without Borders, which is within $100,000 of the total raised during AGDQ 2025. According to the Doctors Without Borders mission statement, the organization brings medical care to people around the world who are affected by war, natural disasters, outbreaks, and displacement via conflict. Since 2013, SGDQ has raised donations for Doctors Without Borders, with its highest total coming in 2022 at over $3 million. The annual SGDQ event was held in Minneapolis and was kicked off by a run of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The classic Genesis title was completed by speedrunner SuperSonic in under 38 minutes.

Other games featured during SGDQ 2025 were races from classics like Sonic Adventure 2 and Super Metroid, with the latter seeing speedrunners Eddie and Oatsngoats finish within two seconds of each other. Although it did not receive a remake for its 25th anniversary, Final Fantasy 9 was featured on the final day of SGDQ 2025. Despite a string of bad luck, speedrunner Sylleath completed the fan-favorite JRPG in under four hours.

The final game of SGDQ 2025 was Deltarune, which saw all four of its available chapters beaten by speedrunner Shayy in three hours and 45 minutes. Games Done Quick will return in full force in early January, as AGDQ 2026 returns to Pittsburgh.
