Closing out a remarkable rookie season in 2025, former Iowa baseball pitcher Jack Dreyer claimed his first World Series title with the Los Angeles Dodgers in a stunning 5-4 11-inning Game 7 victory against the Toronto Blue Jays from Rogers Center in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
After spending the season with the Dodgers following a call-up from the minor-league level at the start of the year, he registered a regular-season record of 3-2 with an earned run average (ERA) of 2.95 in 76 1/3 innings through 67 games played, five starts, and four saves on six opportunities, according to MLB.com.

Throughout Los Angeles’ postseason run, Dreyer made four appearances out of the bullpen, including two appearances in the World Series. In those four games played, he allowed no runs, three hits, three base-on-balls, one intentional walk, and recorded four strikeouts in four innings.
The Johnston, Iowa native is the first Iowan to appear in the World Series since former Nebraska Cornhusker Tony Watson did so with the Dodgers in 2017, and the first Hawkeye to appear since Cal Eldred in 2004 with the St. Louis Cardinals.
As a World Series champion, Dreyer is the first Hawkeye alumnus to win a title as a player since Jim Sundberg helped the Kansas City Royals to a championship in 1985.
While with the Hawkeyes, he accumulated an 8-3 record with an earned run average (ERA) of 3.41, to go along with 76 strikeouts in 60 2/3 innings of work across 20 games played.
