Before one of the most anticipated games of the college football season on Saturday for both Texas Tech University and BYU, two Kansas City Chiefs stars have done their part to draw attention to charity. Former Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes and former BYU alum Andy Reid teamed up with Lubbock Literacy.

Mahomes, now the quarterback of the Chiefs, and Reid, the head coach, have shared many moments since their partnership began back in 2017. They have become one of the strongest player-coach duos in the history of sports, resulting in seven straight AFC Championship games and three Super Bowl wins. Now, even as their alma maters go head-to-head, they continue to team up for a good cause.

The two appeared in a promotional video intended to serve the Lubbock community, the home of Texas Tech, by collecting new and gently-used books at the tailgates of BYU and Texas Tech ahead of Saturday’s big game.

Donations via an Amazon wish list and cash contributions will also be accepted at the drive, with the contributions going towards childhood and family literacy programs in the Lubbock community.

According to the Lubbock Literacy website, the goal of the organization is to teach people who want to learn how to read. They offer classes, tutors, tools, and other resources to achieve their goal.

In a week where Mahomes and Reid finally have the chance to go up against each other, the two have joined up for a shared goal in helping the community around Texas Tech. While the two will surely have their fair share of trash-talking when the actual game begins, the duo teaming up beforehand for a good cause only makes them easier to root for.
