UVM soccer: NCAA championship parade on Burlington’s Church Street

Fans flocked Church Street to celebrate UVM men’s soccer’s historic national championship with a parade and rally.

  • The University of Vermont men’s soccer team begins its 2025 season at home against Sacred Heart on August 21st.
  • Key non-conference matchups include games against Georgetown, Akron, and Hofstra.
  • The Catamounts are returning 18 players from their 2024 NCAA Championship team, including captains Nick Lockermann, David Ismail, and Andrew Millar.

The official start of Vermont soccer’s title defense is just around the corner.

The NCAA national champions embark on a new season next month, kicking off the 2025 campaign with the opener on Thursday, Aug. 21 vs Sacred Heart at Virtue Field.

The Catamounts’ early test in the nonconference slate is a Sept. 1 date at Georgetown, which lost in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament and finished sixth in RPI ranking.

Vermont also plays host to Akron (Sept. 13) and Hofstra (Sept. 16) during a four-game homestand that also includes Lehigh and Dartmouth.

Akron reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year. And Vermont ousted Hofstra, 10th in RPI, at that same stage of the tournament on the road.

The Catamounts captured the College Cup for the first time in program history in December 2024, capping an historic run with two dramatic comeback victories in the semifinal round and championship game at Cary, North Carolina.

Head coach Rob Dow returns for his ninth season in charge of the Catamounts, who welcome back 18 returnees led by captains Nick Lockermann, David Ismail and Andrew Millar as well as Maximilian Kissel, who scored the overtime winner vs Marshall in the NCAA final, and goalie Niklas Herceg, the tournament’s defensive most outstanding player.
