Teri Perry, who has built the Fair Haven girls soccer program into a perennial power, will be the Vermont coach for the Lions Twin State Soccer Cup’s girls game to be played on July 19 at Hanover High School.
Perry was on the Lions staff originally as an assistant coach under Caitlyn Fogel.
The Lions head post became open when Fogel recently took a position of the women’s soccer staff at St. Michael’s College and Perry was a logical choice to succeed her.
Stevens High School coach Tim St., Pierre was just named the New Hampshire girls coach this week after being named as the state’s Coach of the Year at a meeting in Concord, New Hampshire.
St. Pierre’s Stevens High School (of Claremont) was one of the area’s great stories. It was thought in August that the school might not even field a team because of severe financial problems.
“They had bake sales to be able to pay for the officials,” Sunapee High School girls soccer coach Rob Grabill said.
The Cardinals capped a perfect 20-0 season with a 1-0 victory over Raymond in the Division III state championship game. That was a state record 17th shutout.
St. Pierre is a member of a zealous soccer family from Charlestown, New Hampshire that had long been associated with Fall Mountain Regional High School. He spent two decades as a coach with the Fall Mountain boys soccer program.
Perry has her own New Hampshire ties. She is a graduate of Keene High School.
The Lions Twin State Soccer Cup has been played since 1975, debuting with a boys game at Middlebury College with the Vermonters winning 2-1. The girls game was added in 1983 and that year the games were played in Keene.
Last season, Perry was an assistant on the Vermont Lions staff and her daughter Maddy Perry played for Vermont.
But Saturday, her attention will turn to football. Her husband Adam Perry’s Fair Haven football team will be trying to win a second consecutive Division II state championship.
