UVM soccer: NCAA championship parade on Burlington’s Church Street

Fans flocked Church Street to celebrate UVM men’s soccer’s historic national championship with a parade and rally.

Vermont women’s basketball point guard Catherine Gilwee is officially done for the 2025-26 season, according to a statement by a team’s spokesperson on Friday, Jan. 23.

Gilwee hopes to receive a medical redshirt to gain an additional year of eligibility to remain with the Catamounts. NBC5’s Jack Main first broke the news on Gilwee’s plans to redshirt and seek a sixth year in Burlington.

The Shelburne native and former Champlain Valley Union High School standout suffered a left foot injury in early December 2025. In recent games Gilwee has been seen wearing a boot on her left foot.

The America East Conference rookie of the year in 2022 and a second-team all-league selection last winter, Gilwee wraps up her fifth season with 10 starts while averaging 5.7 points per game. Gilwee has helped Vermont reach the NCAA Tournament twice (2023, 2025).

The Catamounts have been playing well despite having their senior leader out, posting a 9-2 record. On the season, Vermont is 16-5 overall and is tied atop conference standings with Binghamton, each team with a 5-1 mark.

Vermont returns to action at home on Saturday, Jan. 24 vs. Bryant. Tip-off at Patrick Gym is set for 2 p.m.
