CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College fell to Vermont, 3–1, in the Hockey East Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Kelley Rink.

After a scoreless first period, Vermont broke through midway through the second when Julia Mesplede scored at 14:15 to give the Catamounts a 1–0 lead. Oona Havana added another even-strength goal at 19:49, sending Vermont into the second intermission with a 2–0 advantage.

Boston College narrowed the gap to 2–1 at 11:16 of the third period as Kate Ham converted assists from Ava Thomas and Sammy Taber.

The Eagles pushed for the equalizer after Ham’s third-period goal. Boston College outshot Vermont 38–27, including 17 in the final frame, but Vermont goaltender Ellie Simmons stopped 37 shots in the win.

With Boston College pressing late and the net empty, Kaylee Lewis sealed the victory for the Catamounts with an empty-net goal at 18:37.

Grace Campbell made 24 saves for the Eagles.

GAME NOTES

• Kate Ham scored Boston College’s lone goal.

• Ava Thomas and Sammy Taber recorded assists.

• BC outshot Vermont 38–27, including 17 shots in the third period.

• Ellie Simmons made 37 saves for Vermont.
