Chris Feifs, the winningest coach in University of Vermont men’s lacrosse history, stepped down from his position after 10 years in charge on Wednesday. Feifs resigned to take the defensive coordinator position at the University of Virginia, where he will also be the Cavaliers’ associate head coach.

Inside Lacrosse’s Matt Kinnear was the first to report the news regarding Feifs departure on Wednesday, June 3.

“On behalf of the Athletic Department and the entire UVM community, I want to thank Chris for his exceptional leadership of our men’s lacrosse program over the past ten years,” UVM director of athletics Jeff Schulman said in a news release. “Chris poured his heart and soul into the program, achieved historic success, all while recruiting and developing young men who represent the best of college athletics on and off of the field.”

Feifs led Vermont to a 78-59 record while helping the Catamounts win their first two America East championships in 2021 and 2022 and first NCAA Tournament victory in team history. During his 10 years, Feifs led Vermont to three America East regular-season titles from 2021-2023 and guided Vermont to six America East championship game appearances. Feifs was named America East Coach of the Year in 2023.

Feifs becomes the third Vermont head coach to depart during the 2025-26 school year. He joins former men’s soccer coach Rob Dow, who left for Penn State, and women’s basketball coach Alisa Kresge, who took the Richmond job.

“To all my players and alumni who have come through this program, thank you for all you’ve given to the Catamount family,” Feifs said in a release. “It has been a privilege to work with you and to be a part of your lives while wearing the Green and Gold and beyond. To my coaches and support staff, you’ve carried me for 10 years and allowed me to live my dream every day. I will look back at the past 10 years as the single greatest growth period of my life, and I owe it all to Catamount Country and the great state of Vermont. This place will always be my second home. Thank you!”
