UVM soccer: NCAA championship parade on Burlington’s Church Street

Fans flocked Church Street to celebrate UVM men’s soccer’s historic national championship with a parade and rally.

Catamount faithful is quite busy for the next few days: The University of Vermont field hockey team is playing for an America East championship, so is the Catamount women’s soccer squad, while the school’s hockey and basketball programs are in full swing with regular-season play.

How did all those Catamounts teams fare during the Nov. 7-9 weekend? For schedule, scores and stats from all games, read on below:

FRIDAY, NOV. 7

Field hockey

America East championship

New Hampshire 1, Vermont 0 (2OT)

NH: Nicole Poulakis 1G. Tasmin Cookman 1A. Abby Johnson 3 saves.

V: Merle Vaandrager 5 saves.

Note: Poulakis redirected Cookman’s delivery high and into the back of the cage as UNH unseated Vermont as America East champion. The Wildcats earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Women’s hockey

Northeastern 3, Vermont 0

N: Stryker Zablocki 1G. Lily Brazis 1G. Morgan Jackson 1G. Jules Constantinople 1A. Alessia Baechler 1A. Ella Blackmore 1A. Kristina Allard 1A. Lisa Jonsson 20 saves.

V: Ellie Simmons 28 saves.

Men’s hockey

No. 18 Boston College 2, Vermont 1

BC: Dean Letourneau 1G. Landen Resendes 1G. Jake Sondreal 1A. James Hagens 1A. Louka Cloutier 29 saves.

V: Max Strand 1G. Cedrick Guindon 1A. Caeden Herrington 1A. Aiden Wright 31 saves.

Note: Vermont tied the game up on a power play goal at the 15:21 mark of the third period. Resendes scored the game winner with just two and half minutes left in the third period.

SATURDAY, NOV. 8

Women’s basketball

Vermont 84, St. Anselm 49

V: Nikola Priede 23 points, 8 rebounds. Kiera Hanson 18 points, 3 assists.

SA: Tatum Forbes 21 points.

Note: Vermont (2-0) shot 54.1% from the field and had a 43-25 edge on the glass in the wire-to-wire victory. The Catamounts host Buffalo on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Women’s hockey

Northeastern 3, Vermont 2

N: Shannon Lily 1G, 2A. Jules Constantinople 1G, 1A. Stryker Zablocki 1G. Lisa Jonsson 19 saves.

V: Mya Lawrence 1G. Oona Havana 1G. Rose-Marie Brochu 1A. Sofie Skott 1A. Makena Lloyd-Howe 1A. Chloe Cliche 36 saves.

Note: Constantinople broke a 2-all tie at 10:17 of the second period as Northeastern rallied to beat Vermont.

Men’s hockey

Boston College 5, Vermont 0

BC: Lukas Gustafsson 1G, 1A. Jake Sondreal 1G, 1A. Will Vote G, 1A. Nolan Joyce 1G. Will Moore 1G. Tedd Stiga 2A. Louka Cloutier 21 saves.

V: Aiden Wright 20 saves, Axel Mangbo 2 saves.

Note: Vote opened the scoring on a first-period power play for the No. 18-ranked Eagles.

SUNDAY, NOV. 9

Women’s soccer

America East championship

Maine 2, Vermont 2 (Maine wins 4-3 in penalty kicks)

M: Jordane Pinette 1G. Grace Johnson 1G. Luise Reinwald 2A. Julie Lossius 1A. Elena Barenberg 6 saves.

V: Emma Warren 1G. Lauren DeGroot 1G. Della Weir 1A. Sydney Remington 1A. Kaley Kreutzer 1A. Kylee Carafoli 8 saves.

Note: Barnberg saved both DeGroot’s and back-up goalie Vanessa Smith’s penalty kicks in the shootout. Smith was Vermont’s goalie during the shootout.

Men’s basketball

Vermont 89, Brown 84 (2OT)

V: TJ Long 40 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists. TJ Hurley 18 points. Noah Barnett 10 points.

B: N’famara Dabo 16 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks. Jeremiah Jenkins 11 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists. Brady Loughlin 16 points, 5 rebounds. Charlie O’Sullivan 11 points.

Note: Vermont came roaring back from 32-24 halftime deficit to tie the game at 47-47 midway through the second half. The Catamounts made 7-of-17 three-point attempts in the second half fueling the offense. The game went to overtime tied at 65 apiece. Hurley hit a buzzer beater to force double overtime at 80-80.
