Vermont basketball has landed another player from the transfer portal.
David Simon, a 6-foot-11, 190-pound forward from the San Diego Toreros, announced his commitment to the Catamounts on his social media pages on May 20.
Simon, who was born in Ethiopia, has three years of eligibility remaining. This past season for the Toreros, Simon entered 22 games, made four starts and averaged 4.9 points and 2.3 rebounds in 11.8 minutes per game. As a freshman in 2023-24, he appeared in four games before being sidelined with an injury.
Against Boston University on Nov. 8, 2024, Simon tallied 14 points on 8 of 12 shooting in a 74-60 home victory. Prior to his arrival at San Diego, Simon attended Royal Crown Academic School in Toronto. Current Catamount Sean Blake also played at Royal Crown.
Vermont previously snagged forwards Gus Yalden, Ben Michels and Trey Woodyard via transfer pickups and brought back Jackson Skipper, who spent last season at Oral Roberts following two years in Burlington. On May 17, Vermont landed transfer guards Ben Johnson and Chris Kuzemka (walk-on).
Head coach John Becker and his Vermont staff need to fill one more scholarship spot to round off their 2025-26 roster.
