Vermont basketball has filled a big need in the frontcourt.
Gus Yalden, a 6-foot-9, 258-pound forward who played for Seton Hall this past winter, has committed to transfer to the Catamounts, 247Sports first reported on Tuesday afternoon.
Yalden also announced his decision on social media, writing: “Extremely blessed for this new chapter in Burlington, beyond thankful for Coach (John) Becker and his staff for this opportunity!”
At Seton Hall, Yalden entered 26 games, averaging 1.8 points, 1.5 rebounds and 8.4 minutes per game for the Pirates, who went 7-25 and finished last in the Big East.
Vermont will be Yalden’s third school in as many seasons. He spent his freshman year at Wisconsin, but did not play games for the Badgers, and then transferred to Seton Hall last spring.
Yalden was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and the 17th-ranked center in his class, according to 247Sports. A native of Appleton, Wisconsin, Yalden’s high school playing days included stops at IMG Academy in Florida and the Asheville School in North Carolina for his sophomore and junior years, respectively, before he landed at La Lumiere School in Indiana for his senior year.
Yalden has three years of eligibility remaining. As of Tuesday, Vermont still has six open scholarships to fill for the 2025-26 roster. Since the season ended, three Catamount players have entered the transfer portal: Seth Joba, Sam Alamutu and Shy Odom.
