(ABC 6 News) — The Century Panthers and John Marshall Rockets may be cross-town rivals who face off on the field, but ahead of next week’s football game between the two schools, they are teaming up for a Tackle Cancer fundraiser.
The two teams will go up against each other on Friday, September 19, but they are turning the game into a community-wide fundraiser to see which school can raise the most money.
Dollars raised through t-shirt sales, food truck purchases, and halftime donations will count towards each school’s total.
Starting at 4:30 p.m., fans can tailgate with a purpose by enjoying foods from local favorites like El Samurai, Corona’s tacos, Minne’SNO’da Shaved Ice and Sinners ‘Sota. Each vendor will donate a portion of their proceeds to Tackle Cancer.
Tackle Cancer t-shirts will also be available for purchase, costing $10 each, and all proceeds go directly to the cause.
Finally, during halftime, volunteers will pass donation buckets through the stands, and fans from both schools are encouraged to give and help their team win the fundraising battle.
Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
