The Celebrity Traitors aired its first episode on ITV on Wednesday evening which saw Claudia Winkleman select three Traitors among the stars.

The Celebrity Traitors made its debut on ITV on Wednesday night with Claudia Winkleman welcoming 19 famous faces to Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands. While the psychological reality game show has been a huge hit with viewers since it first hit screens in 2022, this is the first celebrity version of the series.

The Faithfuls will need to work together to seek out the three Traitors among them with a 100k cash prize for any chosen charity up for grabs. Last night saw Claudia select Jonathan Ross, Alan Carr and Cat Burns as the Traitors while the celebrities awaited their fate while blindfolded at the Round Table.

Aside from the obvious differences in this series, such as the fact they are all somewhat already aware of one another’s personalities and lives and that the money goes to charity, there are also some other huge changes. Experts at Haypp have revealed there are a number of shockingly bizarre and strict rules that the celebrity contestants must follow this year.

After all, Claudia did remind them that although they are all very successful on the outside, that things will change in the castle.

She issued a warning during last night’s episode as she told the group: “This game doesn’t care who you are. In here your glamorous lives count for nothing.”

Here are some of the rules the Celebrity Traitors contestants must abide by on the show:

No phones, no TV remotes

It has been disclosed that the no phone rule will also apply to the celebrity contestants on The Traitors. A ‘production phone’ will be available for occasional calls home, but the celebrity must be supervised throughout the call.

Interestingly, TV remotes are also prohibited on The Traitors to prevent any external information from influencing the game.

This policy is designed to maintain the integrity of the game, with no internet or social media access that could leak spoilers or enable strategic communication outside the show.

Two drink limit

The Traitors are often seen in the bar area, sometimes even tasked with ‘poisoning a drink’, but participants on the show have a very limited alcohol allowance.

Most former contestants report a strict one-drink limit per night during filming.

Some have mentioned being able to get a second drink later in their rooms after filming, though even then, access is restricted to prevent contestants from becoming intoxicated and potentially revealing secrets or acting impulsively.

Smoking and vaping must be supervised

Vaping and smoking regulations differ across various reality TV shows, but on The Traitors, contestants can breathe a sigh of relief as there’s no prohibition on cigarettes or alternative nicotine products like vapes or nicotine pouches.

However, they must not be left unsupervised while smoking or vaping. This oversight is to maintain the game’s mystery and integrity, ensuring that the Faithful, as they’re known on the show, are genuinely in the dark about the Traitors’ identities, just as the broadcast suggests.

Guest can’t roam freely

The castle showcased in The Traitors, Ardross Castle, isn’t fully open to the public as it’s a privately owned estate, not a tourist attraction or hotel.

While it serves as a filming location and can be rented for large private events, weddings, and corporate functions, it doesn’t provide tours or individual room bookings for the general public.

The areas shown on the programme represent only a fraction of the castle, with other parts being uninhabitable. Contestants are also strategically confined to certain areas to prevent them from running into each other.

An NDA that could land you in seriously hot water

All participants on The Traitors, both regular and celebrity, are required to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) barring them from disclosing any details about the show, including the Traitors’ identities, the game’s outcome, or other secrets, before the series has been broadcast. Signing this NDA is a compulsory requirement for taking part in the show.
