NORTHFIELD — The Vermont Chapter of the National Football Foundation announced the rosters for the 24th annual North/South All-Star Football Classic last week, with a handful of local athletes named to the Southern roster.
Four players and senior captains from Mount Anthony Union High School (MAUHS) will join the team: Colby Hill, Asa Reis, Franky Rivera and Jack Sherman.
“Look at the effort they put in,” said MAUHS coach Chad Gordon immediately after the team’s final game of the season on Oct. 31. “Jack Sherman, Colby Hill, Franky Rivera, Asa, those guys work their butts off. But all that senior group, whether it’s the weight room, the offseason stuff, three-sport athletes … Those guys are hopefully going to learn from those seniors. Our best seniors are multi-sport athletes and guys that work in the offseason.”
Four athletes from Burr and Burton Academy (BBA) were also named to the southern roster: seniors Louis Bowen, Miles Treske, and Jason Giejda alongside sophomore Jackson Johnston.
Other athletes named to the southern roster include: Patrick Connors, Camden Perry and Jakeb Tostrup of Bellows Falls; Colby Bristol and Lucas Speno of Brattleboro; Cody Adams, Mason Gutel, Jonathan Hutchins, Caleb Long and Porter Silva of Fair Haven; Noah Daneili, Owen Mock, Richard Rosenbeck, Graham Thompson and Adam Wheatley of Hartford; Ben DeBisschop, Marshall Eddy, Steve Packard, Logan McNulty and Cooke Riney of Middlebury; Tucker Moody and Ethan Patch of Mill River; Colin Carroccia, Austin Mallory and Chase Razanouski of Otter Valley; Eric Kendal of Poultney; Brody Austin, Grady Gallagher, Griff Norton and Cellan Wood of Rutland; Nolan Balser of Springfield; Morgan Johnson of Windsor; and Asher Emery, Rowan Larmie, Aksel Oates and Dominic Palazzo of Woodstock.
The game, which dates back to 2001, was won by the North last year 33-14 for its third straight victory to pull them ahead 12-11 in the series over the South. The local representatives will look to bring the South its first victory since 2021, according to the North/South game page on the National Football Foundation Vermont Chapter website.
Adam Perry of Fair Haven will be the head coach for the South team, and Ethan Curtis of Essex will lead the North. The game’s chairman will be longtime coach Mike Empey. The game was founded by former Middlebury College football coach Mickey Heinecken, who serves as the chairman emeritus. Each of Vermont’s 30 high school football teams have players in the event.
This year’s game will be held on Sunday, November 23 at Sabine Field on the campus of Norwich University in Northfield. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or in person the day of the game. The cost of admission is $11 for adults and $8 for students.
