STORRS, Conn. – No. 9 UConn women’s hockey powered past Vermont, 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. A dominant four-goal second period propelled the Huskies to a weekend sweep of Vermont. UConn moves to 5-1 in Hockey East play and 10-3-1 overall this season.

UConn netminder Tia Chan was solid throughout, making 12 of her 24 saves in the second period.

The first period began with Vermont winning the opening faceoff, but UConn soon took control. Junior forward Livvy Dewar opened the scoring four minutes into the first period with an even-strength goal, her third goal this season. The Huskies quickly extended the lead to 2–0 just five minutes later when junior defender Maya Serdachny capitalized on the power play, her third goal of the season.

Vermont responded with a power-play goal with five minutes remaining in the first period, making the score 2–1 heading into the intermission. Shots favored the Huskies in the first period, 11-6.

UConn began a dominant second period with freshman forward Leila Ricciuti netting her first collegiate goal just three minutes into the period, extending the Huskies lead to 3-1.

Another Huskies freshman, True Thompson followed Ricciuti with a goal just two minutes later, her second goal of the season putting UConn in control with a 4-1 lead.

Junior forward Ashley Allard found the back of the net for the first time this season midway through the second period, putting the Huskies up 5-1.

Senior forward Brooke Campbell capped off the Huskies stellar period with her fourth goal of the season. Campbell has scored goals in back-to-back games for the Huskies.

UConn took a commanding 6-1 lead into the second intermission, as shots were even at 12 a-piece in the second period.

Vermont cut into the deficit with two goals in the third period, but the Huskies defense along with Chan held firm in the final ten minutes, giving UConn back-to-back wins over the Catamounts.
