“We looked forward to playing them, but that was last year,” Saint John’s coach Mike Mead said. “We’re a new group this year and they’re a new group this year.”

▪ Two weeks after he became the first wrestler to win five titles at the George Bossi Lowell Holiday Tournament, Shawsheen senior James Tildsley continued to cement himself as one of the best wrestlers New England has seen.

With a first-period pin of St. John’s Prep’s Hayden Mirasolo in the 157-pound weight class at the Spartan Wrestling Annual Tournament in Sanford, Maine, Tildsley recorded his 200th career pin, the most of any wrestler in New England history.

“James has been talented since he’s been little,” said his father and Shawsheen assistant coach Brian Tildsley. “He’s learned from a young age, forget about the points, if you can pin someone the match is over. He’s taken that literally. He looks for the quickest way to end the match, and always has. He has a devastating cradle, one of the best cradles I’ve seen. His pinning combination is a really good one.”

▪ Wakefield senior wrestling captain Aydin Lamb broke the program record for wins with his 158th, which came on a first-period pin in a 55-15 dual-meet victory over Triton. Usually a 144-pounder, Lamb wrestled up at 157 against Triton but still managed to break the school record, set last year by Sean Callahan, who now wrestles at WPI.

“Great kid to coach, great in the room,” said Wakefield coach Ross Ickes. “Does everything you’d want for someone who’d accomplish this. Don’t have to worry about him, he’s always there. I think that’s the biggest thing. The work he does in the offseason nobody sees.”

▪ Tewksbury senior Tyler Bourgea posted 6 points in a 9-0 boys’ hockey win over Newton South, passing Ryan Petti’s school record of 146 in the process. Bourgea, who notched two goals and four assists, passed Petti on an assist to Kevin Andriolo in the first period. Bourgea now has 149 points.

▪ Methuen senior Vinny DeMaio lodged his 200th career win after going 4-0 during a super quad at Latin Academy. DeMaio is now 12 wins shy of matching Christian Monserrat for the program record of 212.

▪ Sharon senior captain Adam Loebl’s 100th win came in a 45-33 victory over Bellingham as part of a 2-1 day for the Eagles.

Eagles Wrestlers go 2-1 at their Quad today bringing their season tab to 12-4. Eagles had wins over Bellingham and Mansfield. Senior Captain Adam Loebl picks up his 100th win! Great job team and Adam! Great honor for a great young man. pic.twitter.com/TsTKA4973C

▪ Hudson junior Timmy O’Malley scored four times and collected his 100th career point in a 7-1 win over Agawam when he assisted on Jordan Sousa’s third-period goal. Two weeks ago, Sousa assisted an O’Malley goal for his 100th career point.

With an assist in the third period, Hudson’s Timmy O’Malley grabbed his 100th career point. He tallied five points (with four goals) in today’s win over Agawam.

Jordan Sousa got his 100th two weeks ago. He also had a hat trick today.

▪ Kevin Russo started coaching wrestling 36 years ago and on Saturday earned his 500th career victory, leading Watertown to a 70-6 domination of Lynn Tech. Russo spent four years at Belmont and seven at Lexington before taking over the Watertown program.

“You never do this alone, and it really takes a village,” Russo said. “I had no plan to do it for 500 wins. I’m really grateful that I’ve been blessed to be around a lot of supportive people.”

▪ Tewksbury senior Jack Lightfoot earned his 100th career win during a third-place finish in the 132-pound weight class at the Bruce Rich Invitational at Chelmsford. Lightfoot’s 99th win came in the consolation semifinals when he got a takedown in overtime to break a 1-1 tie. His 100th win came with an 8-4 decision in the final.

Because of Tewksbury’s strong lineup, Lightfoot didn’t wrestle varsity as a freshman, meaning he reached 100 wins in a little over two seasons.

“It’s really remarkable for Jack to hit this milestone in the manner in which he has,” said Tewksbury coach Steve Kasprzak. “Jack is tested every week and continues to rise to the occasion. Jack has big goals and we are excited for him at this moment, but more importantly what lies ahead for him.”

Matthew Cloonan, Needham — The senior powered an 8-point fourth quarter comeback for the 11th-ranked Rockets, who topped Xaverian, 59-54, thanks to Cloonan’s 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Donnie Gregory, Martha’s Vineyard — The sophomore was a factor in all five Vineyarder’s goals in a 5-1 Island Cup boys’ hockey victory over Nantucket, scoring three times and assisting twice.

Samia Lalikos, Masconomet — The junior posted one of the biggest rebounding numbers of the season, finishing with a double-double of 21 points and 23 rebounds in a 49-37 girls’ basketball win over Springfield International.

Ari Parker, Norton — The senior goaltender turned away 51 shots to preserve a 1-1 draw against Norwood in Tri-Valley girls’ hockey action.

Chase Pelletier, Pentucket — The senior captain rattled off four goals and one assist to lead the Panthers’ boys’ hockey team to a 7-1 win over Triton.
