The A.J. Brown trade talk might have died down, but it hasn’t completely disappeared from the conversation.

NFL.com’s Matt Okada recently proposed a trade that would reunite the three-time All-Pro wide receiver with his former head coach, Mike Vrabel. Per Okada, the New England Patriots would receive Brown and a 2026 sixth-round draft pick in exchange for a 2026 first-round draft pick, 2026 fourth-round pick and wide receiver Kayshon Boutte going to the Philadelphia Eagles.

That move is a trade proposal for a deal ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. It’s a lucrative deal that could help offset the dead cap hit of more than $40 million the Eagles would have to absorb by moving Brown ahead of June 1.

With that said, the Patriots‘ move to sign Romeo Doubs in free agency, along with the bevy of talented wide receivers in the draft, signals that New England is unlikely to be desperate for a Brown trade. That could lead to a scenario where the two sides come back to the table after June 1, when the money left on Brown’s deal can be spread out for a significantly less dead cap hit of $20 million.

The two teams are seemingly playing a game of chicken to see who blinks first. It would make sense for the Eagles to want a haul if they agree to move Brown ahead of June 1. But will they have the same leverage to ask a high price after that deadline?

Here’s how fans responded to the recent trade proposal:
