Duke, Florida, Auburn, Houston punch their ticket to the Final Four

The madness continues as Mackenzie Salmon previews the Men’s Final Four matchups, which will feature all No. 1 seeds for the first time since 2008.

Sports Seriously

  • Michaels, a 6-foot-8 forward, averaged 8.1 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in his freshman season at Buffalo.
  • Both Michaels and Yalden have three years of eligibility remaining.
  • Michaels, a 6-foot-8 freshman, earned MAC all-freshman team honors this past season.

For the second time this week, Vermont basketball has secured a key frontcourt piece for its future via the transfer portal.

Buffalo freshman forward Ben Michaels, who entered the portal last month, has committed to make the move to Vermont, the England native announced on his Instagram page on Friday.

Tuesday, Vermont landed Gus Yalden, a 6-foot-9 transfer forward from Seton Hall.

The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Michaels appeared in 29 games this winter, making 15 starts for the Bulls. He averaged 8.1 points and 4.0 rebounds in 22.4 minutes per game to earn Mid-American Conference (MAC) all-freshman team honors.

Michaels scored a career-high 15 points in a loss to Ohio and tallied double figures in 10 other games for Buffalo, which went 9-22.

Prior to his season in Buffalo, Michaels played high school ball at Long Island Lutheran in Glen Head, New York.

Just like Yalden, Michaels has three years of eligibility left.

As of Friday, Vermont coach John Becker and his Catamounts’ staff have five more scholarship openings to fill for the 2025-26 squad.
