UVM soccer: NCAA championship parade on Burlington’s Church Street

Fans flocked Church Street to celebrate UVM men’s soccer’s historic national championship with a parade and rally.

For the second time in two days and third since last week, a Vermont basketball player has decided to continue their collegiate careers elsewhere.

Shy Odom, who arrived last summer via Howard but battled injuries in his lone season in Burlington, has entered the transfer portal, Vermont coach John Becker confirmed Tuesday afternoon in a text message to a Burlington Free Press reporter.

Verbal Commits first reported Odom’s decision on its Twitter page earlier Tuesday afternoon.

The former MEAC rookie of the year, Odom only played in 10 games this past winter for the Catamounts, and none since the America East opener at New Hampshire on Jan. 4. He totaled 98 minutes in those 10 games, scoring a season-high 12 points in Vermont’s rout of Plattsburgh State on Nov. 27.

Vermont basketball’s other defections to the transfer portal in the last week are veteran guard Sam Alamutu and sophomore forward Seth Joba.

As of Tuesday, Vermont has seven scholarship openings for the 2025-26 season.
