The Big Green scored their most goals in a game thus far, netting three, but ultimately played to a draw against the national ranked Catamounts.
Dartmouth struck first in the 26th minute. James Wilson threw the ball into the box for the Big Green and after bouncing around, the ball found the foot of Trenton Blake right outside the box. The junior ripped the bouncing ball into the goal for his first of the season, and to give the Big Green a 1-0 lead.
A few minutes later, the Catamounts drew a foul outside the box. They were able to convert on the free kick to knot the game at one a piece.
The game remained tied at one through halftime and into the second half. In the 53rd minute, the field opened for Eidur Baldvinsson. Blake sent Baldvinsson in stride, beating the Catamounts goalkeeper that came out of the box, and sneaking the ball behind him to give the Big Green a 2-1 lead.
Just under nine minutes later, Baldvinsson found himself deep in the offensive zone again. He capitalized on a Catamount mistake, and extended his team’s lead to two.
“In the first goal, we just went at them fast, and I saw the goalkeeper coming towards me, so I went past him and scored the goal,” Baldvinsson said. “Second goal, I knew the defender was gonna make a mistake. I saw it coming. So when he made that mistake, I was ready to pounce.”

The momentum quickly turned in Vermont’s favor, as the Catamounts put pressure on the Big Green. In the 76th minute, they snuck one through to make it a one goal game. Nearly ten minutes later, they found the back of the net again to pull even.
Konstantinos Dellas started in goal for the Big Green making one save and allowing one goal in the first half.
TJ Jeffreys saw his first action with the Big Green, playing the second half and fending off the majority of the Catamounts pressure.
Despite surrendering a two goal lead, Bobby Clark Head Coach of Men’s Soccer Bo Oshoniyi said he was proud of his team and they way they played.
“They battled, they fought from the opening whistle. For us to be able to be up two goals and really have a strong hold on the game, I was proud of the team,” Oshoniyi said. “We talked about consistent effort and we’re consistently getting better so I think we’re in a really good spot… I think we showed a lot of grit, a lot of mental toughness tonight to not fold and lose that game 4-3 when we could have easily.

The Big Green will return to action this weekend, welcoming the Merrimack Warriors to Burnham Field on Saturday, September 13. Bladvinsson and Oshoniyi both say this game provides momentum for the team.
“It’s huge. Vermont are the reigning national champions,” Baldvinsson said. “This team is special, and we saw that today. I think if we keep this mentality going, we can go so far. The sky’s the limit for this team and today’s performance only shows how far we can come.”
Oshoniyi echoed his sophomore forward, stating “This is the level we have to play at all the time. No matter who we’re playing, we always have to bring this level of intensity. And I think if we do that, our soccer will continue to get better as the season goes on… I think for us is making sure that the guys understand this is the standard and we have to stay there to try to be consistent and win some games.”
