When picking a college to attend, high schoolers consider a variety of factors including cost, location, size and how much of a party school it is.
But what about a school’s political leanings?
In their 2026 college rankings, Niche calculated the most liberal and conservative colleges using student reviews of the political leanings of the campus community. They used both student’s personal political leanings and their opinions about the political leanings of students at the college.
New England, known for its Democratic politics, was home to two of the top ten most liberal colleges in America. The University of Vermont was ranked second, and Boston University eighth.

There were no New England colleges in the top ten most conservative, and only one in the top 100.

The most conservative college in New England, according to Niche, was Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut at 60th place.
