Vermont Pastel Society Art Show

When: thru Nov. 9

Where: Emily Gruppe Gallery, 22 Barber Farm Road, Jericho

Details: Featuring nine artists from the Montpelier area with diverse works showcasing the pastel medium. The Vermont Pastel Society is an all-volunteer organization founded in 1999 and has approximately 100 members statewide.  

Smugglers’ Notch Ski & Snowboard Sale

When: 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12

Where: Tarrant Center, Saint Michael’s College

Details: Vermont’s biggest and longest-running ski and board sale. Score deals on skis, snowboards, boots, apparel and accessories for the whole family. Consignment drop-off is 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10. 

Food from The Heart Food Drive

When: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11

Where: Kinney Drugs, Essex Junction

Details: Donations will benefit The Heavenly Pantry of Essex Junction. Please come and say Hello. Hosted by the Essex Junction Lions Club. 

​​A Family’s Revolution: An Abenaki Story

When: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11  

Where: Vermont Genealogy Library (Zoom Webinar)

Details: Sherry Gould will share the Patriot journey of Philip, an Abenaki who navigated the turbulent world of the disputed borderlands between Quebec, New York, New Hampshire, and what would become Vermont, illuminating the difficult paths taken by different factions—from the staunch Loyalists of Odanak, to those who sided with the revolutionaries and others who sought neutrality drawing on primary sources. Kingston’s Autism Swagger Squad VT

When: 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11

Where: Brownell Library

Details: Caregivers of children with autism and other disabilities are invited to connect and share support. While caregivers share experiences, children can explore and play with giant foam blocks, hoops, and other toys in a welcoming and safe environment.

Westford Music Series: Earthbound Spirits

When: 4-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12

Where: Westford Common Hall, 21 Brookside Road

Details: Expect an eclectic mix of both soulful ballads, toe-tappingrockabilly blues and a blend of Americana. Kyle Chadburn on guitar and vocals, along with Rudy Dauth’s vocals and guitar and Chris Doncaster on bass brings their trio’s repertoire to life. Mostly original music along with popular cover tunes make for a performance that appeals to a wide variety of tastes. Admission is by free will donation. Favorite pie raffle. Afterschool Movie: ‘Hotel Transylvania’

When: 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16

Where: Brownell Library

Details: Join for a movie and popcorn. This time: “Hotel Transylvania.” Dracula, who operates a high-end resort away from the human world, goes into overprotective mode when a boy discovers the resort and falls for the count’s teenaged daughter. Rated PG. Open to all ages.

Read to Chewy the Therapy Dog

When: 4-5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16

Where: Essex Free Library

Details: Sign up for a 15-minute slot and read to Chewy and his human, Cindy Turcotte. Sign up on the library website.

Champlain Valley Craft Show and Antique Expo

When: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 and Saturday, Oct. 18 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19

Where: Champlain Valley Exposition, 105 Pearl St.

Details: Explore booths stuffed with antiques, collectibles and timeless décor and shop crafts from skilled artisans. One adult admission (ages 14+) is good for three days of fun. Kids under 14 get in free.

Essex Community Players: Daddy’s Girl

When: Oct. 17-Nov. 1

Where: Memorial Hall

Details: See this theatrical production that follows Bernard Muloovy, proprietor of Maudie’s Diner, who gets served a full plate of comic chaos when his deceased wife decides to take up residence as a talking portrait on the diner wall. Enlisting the services of an angel, Michael, Maudie hopes to reunite Bernard with their long-lost daughter, Elizabeth. Tickets at www.essexplayers.com/tickets. 

Brownell Library Potluck

When: 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17

Where: Brownell Library 

Details: Please email the name of the dish you will be bringing to share to ariana@brownelllibrary.org and include a list of ingredients to protect anyone with food allergies. After that, just show up, enjoy the meal. and have fun. Open to adults of all ages.
