Anna Hamid

Hiram Athletics recently announced the hiring of Anna Hamid as the head coach of the new women’s ice hockey program at Hiram, which will officially be the Terriers’ 26th varsity program and is set to open competition in the 2026-27 season. Hamid joins the Terriers with substantial coaching experience and a decorated D-III hockey career as a goaltender.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be building this program at Hiram,” Hamid said. “This is an exciting opportunity not just for me, but for every young woman who will put on a Terrier jersey for the first time. I want to create a culture where players are pushed to reach their full potential both on and off the ice. We’ll celebrate the wins, learn from the losses, and build something special together. For the girls out there who want to be a part of something new and leave a legacy, this is your chance. You won’t just be joining a team, you’ll be helping to write the very first chapter of women’s hockey history at Hiram College.”

Hamid most recently served as an assistant coach at Vermont State University – Castleton (Division III | Castleton, VT), where she helped lead the Spartans to 11 wins and a NEHC (New England Hockey Conference) playoff appearance. While at Castleton, Hamid oversaw the defensive side of the bench and worked with goalies on skill development. She also served as a goaltending skill development coach with the Troyan Goaltending Academy (Long Island, NY) and has been a goaltending evaluator for USA Hockey NYSAHA Eastern Region for the last three years.

“Coach Hamid brings a wealth of experience, not only as a player but also with her connections in the youth hockey world, to our new women’s ice hockey program here at Hiram,” Director of Athletics, Scott Pohlman, said. “We are looking forward to watching this program grow alongside our men’s ice hockey team in the coming years.”

Hamid also served a year as a student assistant for SUNY Cortland (DIII | Cortland, NY), where the Red Dragons won their first ever conference championship (SUNYAC) and made their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Before she was a student assistant for Cortland, Hamid also was the goalie for the Red Dragons from 2020-23. During that time, Hamid posted a record of 11-2 with three shutouts and one assist. She currently holds the SUNY Cortland program record with the lowest-career GAA (1.23) and is second place all-time in career save percentage (.928).

Hamid earned her bachelor’s degree in Sport Management with a concentration in sport facility and event management from SUNY Cortland in 2024. She also is earning a Master of Science in Athletic Leadership from Vermont State University – Castleton.
