SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Consider the ice thoroughly broken.

The Wisconsin women’s hockey team opened the Icebreaker Tournament in New York with a splash on Friday, beating Vermont 8-1.

Caroline Harvey, Cassie Hall and Kelly Gorbatenko all found the net twice during the win. Lacey Eden and Laney Potter picked up the rest of the scoring tab.

Eden opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game, converting a great pass from Caroline Harvey into a powerplay goal. Potter scored just minutes later, with an assist from Eden and Kirsten Simms.

Eden tallied two assists in the game, becoming the 13th Badger in program history to tally 100 career assists.

The Badgers outshot the Catamounts 47-14, allowing just 3 shots in the third period. Wisconsin won the faceoff battle 39-22.

Friday’s win sets up a showdown with the winner between Union and Saint Anselm for the Ice Breaker Tournament. That game will start on Saturday at 2:37 p.m. CT.
