Panthers urged to trade for Browns’ former Pro Bowl pass catcher

The Cleveland Browns picked up their second win of the season over the Miami Dolphins this past weekend, improving their record to 2-5.

Despite the victory, Cleveland should still be keeping an eye towards the future, with the trade deadline just around the corner.

They have several veteran players on expiring deals who could fetch a solid return in terms of draft capital, and the Carolina Panthers were recently urged to acquire a former Pro Bowler on the Browns’ roster.

Panthers recommended to trade for Browns’ David Njoku

Zach Roberts of Sports Illustrated wants the Panthers to acquire David Njoku from Cleveland, supplying third-year quarterback Bryce Young with another weapon in the passing game, once he returns from injury.

“The Browns have already traded their starting quarterback, so it’s highly likely that nothing is off limits,” wrote Roberts.

“The Panthers have tried to throw assets at the tight end spot to lock it down since Greg Olsen, but none have really worked all that well. The latest efforts include 2024 fourth-rounder Ja’Tavion Sanders and 2025 fifth-rounder Mitchell Evans, but none of them look like a Pro Bowler, which Njoku is.”

With Njoku set to hit free agency next March and the Browns seemingly having no interest in extending him, they would be wise to try and fetch a draft pick for the former Pro Bowl tight end.

Considering the emergence of rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr., the Cedar Grove, New Jersey native has been made expendable.

Fannin, Cleveland’s third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, has been productive through his first seven games, totaling 32 catches for 290 yards and a touchdown.

That production should only go up if the Browns decide to cut ties with Njoku.
