Seacoast Roundup, Exeter girls cross country third at Woods Trail Run

THETFORD, Vermont – Lexi Paterna and the Exeter High School girls cross country team placed third at the 40-team Woods Trail Run on Saturday, Oct. 4.

In a field of 500 runners, Exeter junior Lexi Paterna placed second overall in a time of 19 minutes, 19.81 seconds.

Glastonbury (Conn.) High School sophomore Lauren Parrett won the individual race in a time of 19:12.85. Champlain Valley (Vt.) won with a team score of 50, while Glastonbury placed second (122) and Exeter (177) was third.

All five of Exeter runners placed in the top 69. Bri Paterna was 25th in 21:15, Molly Kells was 38th in 21:52, Izzy Bremer was 60th in 22:35 and Maddie Poteet was 69th in 23:46.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Oyster River wins Battle of the Borders

HUDSON – Olivia Kavanagh placed second in a time of 19:18.6, leading Oyster River to the win at the 14-team Battle of the Borders at Alvirne High School.

Oyster River placed first with a team score of 36,, while Pinkerton (56), Boston Latin Academy (85), Bedford (89) and Windham (166) placed second through fifth, respectively. Portsmouth was ninth at 237.

Oyster River’s Neely Roy was fourth in 19:26.04, Madelyn Cook (19:48.89) was sixth, Haley Bezanson (20:00.54) was eighth and Jahrie Houle (21:00.39) was 19th.

For Portsmouth, Sienna Metcalf was 41st (21:53), Jenny Ryan was 52nd (22:20) and Ava Barrows was 65th (22:55).

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Oyster River sixth at Battle of the Borders

HUDSON – Oyster River had all five of its runners place in the top 50 and placed sixth out of 25 teams at the Battle of the Borders at Alvirne High School.

Boston Latin Academy won with a team score of 90, while Oyster River had a score of 145. Portsmouth was 19th with a score of 478.

Oyster River’s Levi Clapp was seventh overall in a time of 16:30.81, while teammates Siddharth Sanjay (30th, 17:22.61), Jace Dinnan (33rd, 17:25.91), Brendan Banafoto (34th, 17:25.98) and Garrett Sellers (46th, 17:37.23) all competed.

For Portsmouth, Gavin Leader was 43rd (17:36), Victor Mohedano was 104th (18:58), Luke Boynton was 106th (19:01), Daniel Sabalakov was 119th (19:20), and Wilson Jaggars was 121st (19:22).

Exeter competes at Woods Trail Run

THETFORD, Vermont – Exeter had two runners in the top 100 and placed 14th in the 46-team Woods Trail Run.

Exeter’s Logan Poteet placed 40th in the 714-runner field in 18:05, while Ian Cottrill was 95th (18:50). Xavier Garcia de Parades (117th, 19:14), Marcus Clark (126th, 19:20) and Wally Dangora (133rd, 19:25) all competed for the Blue Hawks.

GIRLS SOCCER

Newmarket 4

Hinsdale 0

HINSDALE – Dimitra Zygouri, Audrey Orcutt, AJ Mulligan and Kaya Dobberstein each scored a goal for Newmarket in its Division IV win.

Mulligan and Avery Szelog each had a corner for the Mules. Dobberstein and Chloe Winkler split time in the Newmarket goal.

York 2

Lincoln Academy 0

YORK, Maine – Sommer Morrison and Sydney Morse each scored a goal for York in its Class B South win.

Morrison’s goal came on a cross from freshman Ella Mello, while Morse scored after crashing the net on a Tessa Spaulding free kick that was originally saved by the Lincoln goalkeeper. York goalie Ava Hickey had 10 saves, and midfielder Grace Lovgren starred for the Wildcats.

BOYS SOCCER

Traip Academy 6

Sacopee Valley 1

HIRAM, Maine – Jack Kern had three goals and one assist, and Adrian Cunningham, Dylan D’Auteuil, and Mason Carter all had one goal for Traip in its Class C South win.

Jonah Nelson added three assists for the Rangers, while Cunnigham had one. Traip goalie Ovidio Kern had three saves.

FIELD HOCKEY

Windham 5

Marshwood 2

WINDHAM, Maine – Isabel Rothwell and Hazel Stout each scored for Marshwood in this Class A South loss.
