BURLINGTON, Vt. – The No.18/17 Boston College men’s hockey team scored late through Landan Resendes’ first collegiate goal to pick up a 2-1 victory over Vermont at Gutterson Fieldhouse on Friday evening for their first league win of the season. Dean Letourneau also scored for the Eagles, while Jake Sondreal and James Hagens both had an assist. Louka Cloutier made 29 saves between the pipes, including 11 in the third period.

Boston College improves to 3-4-1 overall and 1-2-0 in Hockey East while Vermont drops to 3-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in league play.

The Eagles defense came up big in the first period, killing off a 5v3 to keep the game scoreless with four saves from Cloutier and a block by Will Skahan during the two-man deficit.

BC opened the scoring late in the opening frame with a power play goal through Letourneau. The Catamounts attempted to clear the puck, but the attempt bounced off Sondreal and fell right in front of the goal to Letourneau. The sophomore showed off the silky hands and went high on the back-handed shot to put the Eagles in front.

Drew Fortescue nearly doubled the lead late in the third during a power play, but his shot rang off the pipe and went out wide to the boards.

The Catamounts tied things up with under five minutes to go in the third period when Max Strand scored a power play goal from just outside the crease.

The Eagles jumped ahead for the final time with 90 seconds remaining when Resendes tallied the winner. A pass from the Catamounts in the neutral zone was intercepted by Hagens, who immediately found Resendes with the outlet pass to send him towards goal.
