With less than two weeks before the first preseason match and a month-and-a-half before the MLS regular season starts, the New England Revolution are putting the finishing touches on their 2026 roster.
Along with bringing in young stars who played under new head coach Marko Mitrović for the United States, Revs Sporting Director Curt Onalfo has had to part ways with some of last year’s squad.
Some of the departures were players brought in by Onalfo himself, while others were acquired by previous front offices led by Bruce Arena and Mike Burns.
Though this offseason’s transactions weren’t as seismic as last year’s when the club moved on from 16 first-team players, the 2026 roster will still look a little different from how it did under Caleb Porter in 2025.
For more on the club’s recent moves, here’s who’s in and who’s out in the new year.
Additions
- Brooklyn Raines (Bought from Houston)
- Ethan Kohler (Bought from Werder Bremen)
- Myles Morgan (Signed to Revs II)
- Javaun Mussenden (Signed to Revs II)
- Schinieder Mimy (Drafted No. 38)
- Kyle McGowan (Drafted No. 68)
Bringing in Raines is the largest move of the offseason so far for New England. Onalfo sent $1.6 million to the Dynamo for the 20-year-old, with an additional $400,000 possible if certain conditions are met.
The midfielder previously played under Mitrović on the U-20 US National Team. Also on that side was Kohler, who started four games at center back in the U-20 World Cup in 2025.
The Revs bring the 20-year-old from Germany where he appeared in 34 matches for Werder Bremen II, 17 for the U-19 side and nine on loan with SC Verl.
At Revs II, the club recently signed 18-year-old American midfielder Javaun Mussenden and 20-year-old Canadian forward Myles Morgan.
Mussenden is a Revs Academy product who started 16 matches for Revs II as an amateur. Morgan recently spent time playing for Valour FC, recording seven goals and three assists in 26 appearances for the Canadian Premier League club.
McGowan and Mimy are New England’s most recent SuperDraft selections. How they fit into the club’s roster selection remains to be seen.
Departures
- Tomás Chancalay (Traded to Minnesota)
- Brandon Bye (Signed with Portland)
- Ignatius Ganago (Loan expired)
- Wyatt Omsberg (Retired)
The departures of Bye, Chancalay, and Ganago make the club younger and free up valuable international and Designated Player spots heading into the 2026 preseason.
At the end of December, New England moved Chancalay to Minnesota for $100,000 after he struggled to find his pre-injury form in 2025.
Ganago similarly had trouble finding a rhythm in the Revs attack this year, as he was moved between striker and wing while others on the roster missed time due to injuries.
After he finished the year with three goals and three assists, New England let his loan from FC Nantes expire.
Bye, one of the longest-tenured members of the team, holding 214 career appearances, signed with the Timbers in late December. The 30-year-old defender’s deal with Portland is for two years with an option for another season.
Last year, Bye started just 12 matches for the Revs as the team moved toward playing younger full backs.
