Miracle League of Louisville athletes join the UofL baseball team as part of Shriners Children’s College Showdown Youth Experience.Miracle League of Louisville is a baseball league for children with disabilities to play baseball in a space where wheelchairs, walkers, physical and cognitive challenges can’t hold them back. On Saturday, 150 Miracle League athletes took the field at Jim Patterson Stadium alongside the University of Louisville baseball team for a college baseball experience unlike any other. Across the country, more than 250,000 children compete as part of the United States Miracle Leagues. The Miracle League was founded to remove the barriers that children with disabilities face and allow them to experience an authentic baseball experience. Each athlete is paired with an able-bodied “buddy” to help the players have a safe and fun game. The League allows children to build confidence and make connections in a space where all players are treated like any other athlete. Saturday’s event acted as a fundraiser for the league and spread awareness about the International Health Care System, which provides care regardless of a family’s financial ability to pay for the care. The event was hosted in collaboration with Shriners Children’s, the University of Louisville, Kosair of Kids, and the Miracle League of Louisville, and games were held between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and admission to the event was free of charge. Miracle League of Louisville will be making a trip down to Texas in 2026 to play in the All-Star Game at Globe Life Field.
