(KMAland) — A 10-year-old St. Albert student has qualified for the AAU Junior Olympic Games.

Following a strong performance at the AAU Region 14 Track & Field National Qualifier in late June, Nellie Maher has advanced in the 400 meter dash.

Maher ran a 1:10.41 at the regional meet and finished in fifth place, among athletes from Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota.

The top eight finishers in each event advance to the AAU Junior Olympic Games, which will be held July 29th through August 8th at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
