The Story
Bafana Bafana prospect Tylon Smith has shared his first words since completing his move to Major League Soccer outfit New England Revolution, with the young defender expressing his excitement about beginning a new chapter in the United States.
The 21-year-old joined the greater Boston-based club from English Championship side Queens Park Rangers on a season-long loan deal, with the agreement reportedly including an option for New England to make the move permanent.
Smith, a product of the Stellenbosch FC youth system, made four first-team appearances for QPR last season and will now look to build on that experience in MLS as he continues his development at senior level.
The towering centre-back has already begun settling into his new surroundings, taking part in his first training session with his Revolution teammates, with the club sharing footage from the session across its social media platforms.
The introduction also featured a message from Smith to the New England supporters, giving fans an early glimpse of his ambitions for his time in the States.
Having previously captained Amajita and earned inclusion in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Smith arrives in MLS with growing international experience and plenty to prove.
His loan spell is expected to run through the end of the current MLS campaign, with the regular season scheduled to conclude on 7 November and the playoffs taking place in December. Smith is then expected to return for the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, which will run from February through May.
For the talented defender, the move represents another important step in an increasingly international career, with MLS providing a new platform to gain valuable first-team experience and make his mark outside South Africa and England.
