The Red Sox made it clear where their NFL allegiance stands before the Patriots opened the 2026 season in Seattle.
Boston sports teams know how to stick together.
The Red Sox paused their own season Wednesday to send a simple but spirited message to the New England Patriots before their highly anticipated season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
“The Pats are back in action tonight!” the Red Sox wrote on X. “Good luck this season, @Patriots!”
It was only a short post, but it delivered a fun reminder that the bond between New England’s professional sports teams stretches well beyond their respective seasons. Red Sox fans may be focused on Boston’s September playoff push, but plenty of them will trade baseball for football once the first pitch and final out are complete. Wednesday offered an especially compelling reason to make the switch.
Patriots Face Seahawks In Super Bowl Rematch
The Patriots will open their 2026 season against the Seahawks at Lumen Field in a rematch of Super Bowl LX. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock. It will be the first Wednesday game in Patriots franchise history and the first Week 1 Super Bowl rematch since the Denver Broncos hosted the Carolina Panthers in 2016.
That is not exactly a gentle introduction to the new season.
New England will have an immediate opportunity to measure itself against the defending champions while attempting to move past the disappointment of its Super Bowl loss. Mike Vrabel’s team will enter the opener with another season of enormous expectations surrounding quarterback Drake Maye.
The Patriots’ return also creates one of the best stretches on the New England sports calendar.
The Red Sox are chasing meaningful wins in September. The Patriots are beginning another pursuit of a championship. The Bruins and Celtics are not far behind, either.
For fans across the region, there is almost always another game waiting.

Red Sox Continue Fun New England Tradition
Support between Boston’s professional teams is nothing new. Players regularly attend one another’s games, championship teams have been honored across the city and congratulatory social media messages have become part of the region’s sports culture.
Still, the timing of Wednesday’s post made this one feel a little more significant.
The Patriots are not beginning the season with an ordinary game. They are returning to the stadium of the team that ended their championship bid just seven months ago. That gives New England fans plenty of emotion to carry into kickoff. The Red Sox helped set the mood with a message that was short, supportive and perfectly Boston.
Baseball season is not finished, but football season has officially arrived.
