Dear Editor,
If Vermont schools hadn’t overlooked the current pool of stateside kids looking for a quality Vermont college, enrollment at those places wouldn’t have collapsed as it has. Until college administrators get smart, they’ll have a parade of international students using Vermont as an entryway to America and not for higher learning.
Why weren’t students from northern New England, where I lived for 42 years, and other stateside locations tapped for Vermont’s schools? Why does it seem that Vermont was chasing the elusive — frankly, nonexistent — international students well-versed in English who wanted to stay in Vermont after graduation? In my opinion, that pool doesn’t exist.
Meanwhile, Vermont offers fewer and fewer choices for colleges.
