Now let’s dive into the highlights.

▪ Mashpee’s Tristan Mastrogiacomo scored with both feet and his head as he tied the school’s single-game goal record with five in an 8-3 win over Hull. The sophomore even hit the post as he attempted to exceed the record.

“He had probably the best game of his career. Hull could not stick with him,” said first-year head coach Dylan Barger. “I’m incredibly proud of his performance.”

▪ Mastrogiacomo didn’t offer the day’s only five-goal performance. The other belonged to Wareham senior Boonsong Ouellette, who has been on a real burner. Ouellette scored five times in Wednesday’s 7-1 win over Bristol Aggie, just 48 hours after he deposited all four goals in a 4-1 win over Norfolk Aggie, giving him nine goals in two games.

▪ Junior Chloe McKinnon, the lone returning starter on the Dartmouth girls’ volleyball team, notched her 500th career kill as she laid down 14 in a 3-0 sweep of neighboring New Bedford.

▪ Saugus boys’ soccer coach Joshua Crespo, a former standout at Medford, won his first game as the helm of the Sachems, 1-0, over Gloucester.

Ever wondered how that wacky high school nickname came to be? Or why some programs (Walpole field hockey, Marblehead hockey, Medfield boys’ basketball) have their own mascot? Matt Porter broke down the one-of-a-kind nicknames unique to the Bay State.

Tuesday’s boys’ soccer match between Martha’s Vineyard and Rising Tide resulted in coach Tony Reis being dismissed Wednesday morning after engaging in “unacceptable behavior.” Craig Larson has the story.

Alexa Podalsky took a look at the Masconomet field hockey team, which is off to an undefeated start under first-year coach Vanessa McGuire.

Four local athletes were honored as 2025 Bay State Games Athletes of the Year.

Delany Ochs, a 12-year-old from South Hadley, was named Female Youth Athlete. She has earned 29 gold, 17 silver, and 6 bronze medals in twirling across seven years competing in the Bay State Games.

Dewey Hathaway, a freshman at Western New England who hails from Chesterfield, was the Male Youth Athlete. He has competed in archery since 2018 and has won four golds and one silver medal. He is a member of the USA Archery U18 team.

Ginny Richburg, 66, of York, Maine, has won nine track medals in the Bay State games, earning her Female Adult Athlete honors.

Wayne Dickenson, 61, of Somerset, is a fifth-degree black belt and was instrumental in organizing Bay State judo events. He has competed in two sports since 1995, earning 15 gold and three silver medals in judo, as well as a bronze in table tennis.

Some hockey news came out of the Merrimack Valley Conference, where Westford has dropped into the Small division and Lincoln-Sudbury announced a co-op with Wellesley, which will host. MVC teams are now looking to fill the L-S hole on their schedule.
