Guam will be represented in swimming for the first time at the Youth Olympic Games as Ocean Campus, 17, was selected to compete, the Guam Aquatics Federation said in a release.

The federation said it’s a milestone for the island’s aquatic sports community.

Campus was selected to represent Guam in the swimming competition at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal.

Campus, a senior at St. John’s School, will compete alongside talented young swimmers from around the world. His selection marks an important step forward for Guam Aquatics and reflects the opportunities available to dedicated young athletes from the island.

“Ocean’s selection is a proud milestone for Guam Aquatics and for swimming in Guam,” said Edwin K. Ching, president of Guam Aquatics Federation in a statement. “We congratulate Ocean on earning this opportunity to represent our island, and we hope his journey inspires the next generation of Guam swimmers.”

Campus will travel with representatives of the Guam National Olympic Committee and his coach, Donald San Agustin. Guam Aquatics congratulates Ocean, his family, coaches, and the Guam swimming community on this achievement.

Five athletes

Campus is among five athletes that will represent Guam at the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, according to the games official website.

Alonzo Acosta will represent Guam in athletics in men’s hammer throw, Erica Cassidy and Alessandra Leon Guerrero will compete in women’s beach volleyball and Lana Quinata will compete in athletics in women’s shot put.

Campus will compete in men’s 50m freestyle, men’s 100m freestyle, men’s 200m freestyle and men’s 200m individual medley.

For the first time in history, Africa will host an Olympic event when the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games take place from Oct. 31 to Nov. 13.

Some 2,655 young athletes, including 1,330 boys and 1,325 girls, are due to take part in the Games in Senegal, with 204 National Olympic Committees represented, as well as the Refugee Olympic Team.

Events will be spread across the Senegalese capital of Dakar, as well as the new city of Diamniadio and the seaside coastal town of Saly.

There are 153 medal events across 25 sports, including athletics, futsal, street skateboarding, and beach wrestling.

Beach volleyball pool round is scheduled for Nov. 1. Swimming events also start on Nov. 1.

The hammer throw competition is on Nov. 8 and women’s shotput is scheduled for Nov. 10.

Olympics.com and Olympic Channel will stream the competition across the globe, with English commentary and no territorial restrictions. NBC Olympics will also be showing the games.
